I work with glass on an intimate scale, directly linked to my jewellery practice. Using the ancient technique of lampworking, I melt, blow and shape glass in the flame of a blowtorch, letting heat, gravity and timing shape each form. Droplets of glass that I usually use to make earrings are reimagined here as part of a shared visual experience, blurring the line between jewellery and sculpture.
Each of the 16 black bubbles that make up this work is pendant sized, with coloured glass suspended like sparks mid explosion. When grouped together, the forms echo fireworks, moments of celebration frozen just after they burst into life. By repeating and clustering these small forms, the work shifts from the personal scale of adornment to something more collective and festive.
Small Celebrations reflects the role of making in my practice. When the world feels overwhelming and chaotic, returning to the flame and working with glass offers a sense of calm and continuity. The work celebrates small, personal moments of joy found through process and repetition.
